Assignement 2 : problem and solution

Hi !!
Sarah s back for back for new exciting adventures!
Today I've decided to talk about piracy, or illegal downloading.

The easiest thing to begin with is to explain what is it exactly to highlight the problem. Basically it is using internet to download music, films, games, softwares. This internauts use peer to peer (P2P) network, means that they use diverse connectivity between internauts in these networks in order to share datas. The problem is obviously that they don' t pay for what they get. These networks are called "kazaa", "Emule", "Shareaza", "limewire"...and they cause huge dramas. Economically speaking, firms loose money because they spend money to launch products that don t buy and artists don t get paid. Socially speaking, this harms the creativity of the countries. Everybody get scared of created something that won' t yield. This could harms the countries development. France is the first place touched by this flail.

What are the solutions which can be enforced? There are different kinds of solutions. The first one would be repression. Police from the whole world start cheking on the internet users; if they find them, they receive fines. If they get caught while uploading, they can go to court and risk jail. The next one would be compromising. Internet is a great way of doing business, companies sell products online for cheaper prices. Following the same idea, more and more networks like this are starting to charge the uploaders. They can choose between different prices depending on how much and what they want to download. In another point of view, a few countries such has canada decided to give up and let the pirates be. I don t have the perfect solution but I'm sure about one thing : firms have to cut prices!!

Always a pleasure to post for you, I'll think about you from France;)

1st assignement

Hi!

Due to personal reasons I could not post my message before today.
In that case, I decided to talk about another trend that the listmania. I chose the social networking trend.

What is a social networking exactly? According to wikipedia it is" a social structure made of nodes (which are generally individuals or organizations) that are tied by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as values, visions, idea, financial exchange, friends, kinship, dislike, conflict, trade, web links, sexual relations, disease transmission (epidemiology), or airline routes." This culture phenomenom dates from a few years and is a bit different to the blogmania.
As you all can see, this is something quite popular nowadays. We (especially youg people, the "internet generation") all are part of at least one social network; the best illustration would be Facebook (2007). Why are we so mad about this? The main reason would be that we want to feel that we are part of something, we are all connected, not alone any more. Social life has alsways been hugely important for the human kind. Now we stay in touch with hundreds of friends all over the world, sharing datas or looking for relationships. Professionally speaking we have the opportunity to show everyone who we are and what we can do without any restrictions. This is the case of Myspace where produceurs search now for new stars or trade network where we do business online.
This is a new step in the globalization phenomenom.
